Three layers of under-glaze, and two of a clear satin glaze, make for a painting that will withstand eons of time.

Mark Herrling: The inspiration for my images comes from my interest in petroglyphs. In Paleolithic times, stone implements were used to scratch symbols and figures of animals and human beings into rock surfaces. Perhaps these prehistoric artists attempted to capture the magical quality of their visual world in hopes that it would serve as a supernatural aid in their struggles with nature. My quest, too, is to capture the magical visions of my imaginative world. Mark R. Herrling
